Lidl Hungary has significantly expanded its logistics capabilities with the opening of a new warehouse in Kiskunfélegyháza, representing an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, or approximately €162 million. This facility, which is now the largest warehouse for Lidl in Hungary, is set to play a crucial role in supplying around 70 of its stores across the country. The development marks a substantial commitment to strengthening Lidl’s supply network within Hungary.
The new logistics center spans over 83,000 square meters and has already created more than 400 jobs in the region. Lidl has plans to further increase its workforce, intending to hire an additional 50 employees soon. With 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the center is equipped to handle large volumes of goods efficiently. On average, about 4,500 pallets of products are expected to be dispatched from this facility each day, supporting the retailer’s operations across its 220 stores in Hungary.
In line with modern sustainability practices, the facility incorporates several energy-efficient technologies. A significant feature is the 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation, which contributes to the center’s energy needs. Additionally, the facility employs a system that repurposes waste heat from the refrigeration process to provide underfloor heating, reflecting Lidl’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Surrounding the site is a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, further emphasizing the company’s dedication to sustainable development.
By sourcing nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers, Lidl continues to bolster its domestic operations and support local businesses. The new logistics center is poised to facilitate the retailer’s ongoing expansion efforts within Hungary, ensuring a more streamlined and robust supply chain. This investment not only enhances Lidl’s logistical infrastructure but also underscores its long-term strategy to reinforce its presence in the Hungarian market.
